"A liquid-crystal display (LCD) is a device designed to display numbers and images by injecting liquid crystal (a substance that is a cross between solid and liquid) between two thin glass plates, changing the arrangement of liquid crystal molecules with the voltage difference of the electrodes upon the upper and lower glass plates, generating light and darkness, and using a kind of optical switch. LCDs are widely used in electronic watches, electronic calculators, LCD TVs, notebook PCs, and other electronics products, as well as in cell phones, and speed display boards and operation systems in automobiles and aircrafts.
LG Innotek develops and produces LCD modules by using TFT LCDs and OLEDs (organic light emitting diodes), and focuses on LCD modules for small-application mobile phones. A TFT LCD module consists of a printed circuit board (PCB) to which a TFT LCD panel, a driver LSI (large-scale integration), and various circuit elements are attached, as well as of a back light unit (BLU), and a chassis.
LG Innotek began the mass production of its initial 1.86-inch model, and is now mass-producing the prime 1.8, 2.0, and 2.2-inch LCD models.
